I own a Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro Global Version (MIUI 12.5.8), once I've enabled the minimalistic interface that allows me to add widgets, I succesfully added a weather widget that still works fine, it still can be resized but if I try to add another widget the app simply does nothing.

Similar thing happened with the same phone configuration using the debug 3.17.0 .apk file: I've managed to add a widget but once I removed it I was unable to add it again or to add any other widget, I'll attach a gif for more context.

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Go to the 3 dots menu
  2. Click on "Add a Widget"
  3. Select a Widget from the menu
  4. Nothing happens

Expected behavior
I expect the widgets to appear on my home screen

Additional information

  • App version: 3.17.0
  • App installed via: F-Droid:

Additional context
If requested I can share my trace files

Hi,
Same problem here on Samsung S10e, with both Android and KISS latest updates.
When trying to add a widget, it doesn't appear whereas it used to.
Tried to reinstall but problem still here.

I'll try to borrow a phone with MIUI to double check my fix, but the issue was resolved for some users afaik.

Widget picker was never a problem on Samsung devices, not sure what happened with the S10e. I will test on my S10+ but if I can't reproduce it, I'll need more info.

Same issue here on Fairphone 4, Android 11.

I just updated to 3.7.0 (wasn't an issue before, but I don't know what version I was on before).

I had a widget on my homescreen from before the update (which was still working).

I then added a second widget and got a popup asking for permission to access widgets, which I confirmed with "always allow". The second widget appeared as expected.

Then I tried to add a 3rd one, and that one (and all subsequent tries) didn't work anymore.

I tried:

  • Restart KISS
  • Restart Android
  • Force Close KISS and reset Cache
  • Reset data for KISS
  • Reinstall

No change for any of that.

Logcat doesn't show anything, and the apps are acting as if the widget was activated. Could be that the widgets are actually active, but for some reason aren't shown?

I noticed my phone also acts as if the widgets are active, for example the Digital Wellbeing icon appears on the notification center when I click on the relative widget from the menu!

Same issue. I was able to add a single widget, now I cannot anymore (even after removing the first widget). Using version 3.17.0 from F-Droid on LineageOS for OnePlus 3 (Android 11).

I just downgraded to 3.16.10. Adding widgets works without any issues there.

This solution doesn't work for me, from what I read in the issues section this problem is given by something regarding MIUI

@Spreadcat

I could not downgrade either. F-Droid throws an error message when I try to install the previous version. is there any other source for the APK? AFAICS the releases are only providing an APK file for the last version, but compressed source code for the previous ones. Am I wrong?

Direct downgrade doesn't work. You need to backup the config, uninstall, install the older version, apply the backup and then I had to restart KISS for the backup to fully take effect.

Can confirm that way it's working. Thanks

I'm having the same issue after upgrade to 3.17.0. I'm on Lineage OS 19 (Android 12), so I don't think this is MIUI- related..?

Mine is a different situation, with 3.16.10 widget menu didn't show up at all

So maybe we got two bugs here. One affecting everyone on 3.17.0 and one affecting MIUI users on 3.16.10+.

Hello, Same as Alexy02 and Dakaron on my Fairphon3 with Murena ( /e/ )

Was working fine before. Did someone try to not say "always allow" for widgets ? Just thinking aloud, I didn't yet at least.

Got the same issue on a Galaxy Note 4 with Lineage 16 (unofficial build). Thought this was linked to the widget creating authorization so i re-installed the app but when i trier to add widgets, doesn't asked me to allow KISS to create widgets so I think that KISS doesn't try to create a widget.

I have this issue on my Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro running AOSPExtended Android 8.1.0. Adding widgets fails for KISS 3.17.0. Uninstalling KISS and installing version 3.16.10 fixes the issue for me!

@TBog any idea what's happening? It's very likely related to #1954 but seems to impact a lot of devices from various constructors.

Thanks for your help!
