NiftiNet Roadmap

I am trying to determine how much effort to put into using NiftyNet. I am concerned that the development pace has drastically dropped off recently, and the issues in the issue tracker are not being addressed.

If this project has run its course, it's funding has ended, and its graduate student development team has moved on, then I'll look to alternative solutions.

It would be great to have a road map defining the intended life of the project so that expectations are kept in check. I do not want to invest efforts into a project (even a great project like NiftyNet) if it does not have a community of active users/developers working to keep it relevant.

• I am particularly interested in the support of Tensorflow 2.0.
• I am particularly concerned about the slow pace of development, and the lack of addressing the long outstanding issues. (NOTE one perfectly acceptable way to address a long outstanding issue is to tag it as "non-critical" "or backlog" and close it from the issue tracker! There are even github robots that do that for you automatically https://github.com/marketplace/stale ).

A "State of NiftiNet" roadmap would be greatly appreciated.

We still need to formalise our position as a consortium but in short, most of the NiftyNet development efforts have now been redirected towards MONAI.

We evaluated that the effort of switching from TF1.0 to TF2.0 was significant, and at the same time, a significant part of our initial user base was switching to PyTorch. This felt like a good time for joining forces with other groups and starting a broader effort based on PyTorch (but similar in spirit to NiftyNet).

MONAI will be releasing its first "public alpha" (a.k.a. 0.1.0) version in the next few days (see https://github.com/Project-MONAI/MONAI/projects/2) meaning it is now indeed a good time to clarify the future of NiftyNet. I'll raise this with the team.

MONAI made its first public release (v0.1.0). Concurently, NiftyNet is now explicitly marked as unmaintained (see 935bf43). I am thus closing this issue.
