OAAB_Data Release 2.1.0
This is a very big release with all kinds of new assets as well as things from the 2022 Modding Madness event. But before we get into it, I want to introduce a few new members of the OAAB_Data team!
Dallara
Olaf
Tewlwolow
I hope I didn't miss anyone. A lot of people contribute to OAAB_Data through feedback and other odds and ends who may not be on the team (yet). So thank you to everyone who contributed. Especially everyone on the OAAB Discord who gives feedback during development.

Imperial galleon and cutter
Out of everything in this update, by far I spent the most time on the galleon set which also covers the cutter ship. I looked at a lot of references of real galleons to try making an interesting design. In the end, the set includes over 60 meshes. It covers clutter items like rope, sailcloth, pulleys, rowboats; shipwreck models; a new wall kit designed to work with the ships; and several other things. The galleon set got a preview in my ModJam 2023 mod: The Search for the White Wave.
Small dunmer ship
Before I took on the galleon project, I started with something smaller. This dunmer-style ship is just intended to give more variety at ports. It's somewhat based on a concept art by Gnomey.
MwGek's lighthouses
Between the last OAAB_Data update and this one, MwGek made two wonderful lighthouse models which are now being included here. One is in the nordic style and the other is velothi. Both come with custom interior pieces. They're each featured in their own excellent mods: Dagon Fel Lighthouse and Vivec Lighthouse
Velothi additions
Velothi saw quite a few new resources with this update. Between the canton dock set by MwGek and then some new canton buttresses by Shivatheo, Vivec mods have some more options. And then there are the new assets that I made for Secrets of the Crystal City (hereafter I will refer to this mod as "Secrets"). You can see the new canton resources below:
The additions from Secrets are mostly ruined pieces. For both interiors and exteriors. With a few other extras such as the "basement" foundation meshes which are excellent for snapping together. There's also a new spear trap designed to blend into the velothi tile set.
Lastly, one of the most recent additions is a small velothi tower designed to utilize the same interior pieces as MwGek's lighthouse.
Miscellaneous additions
These sets didn't get a major focus in this update, but here are a few exterior additions which slipped in: round Imperial tower base and ruined wall; wide and long Hlaalu steps; dwemer overlook platform; a daedric rubble edge piece; and some additional thatch overhang options. The Imperial meshes were made by Greatness7 for Firemoth Reclaimed. I made the dwemer overlook and daedric rubble meshes for Secrets.
Clutter
Small chains
OAAB_Data has had some large chains for a while, but has been missing smaller chains for designing scenes. For Secrets, I made some modifications to an old model by R-Zero to be more generic.
Common crates
Tamriel_Data has some nice crate models but they're designed to fit into Province:Cyrodiil and stand out on Vvardenfell. So I made some tweaks to the models and textures so they'd fit in better and we could have some more crate variety.
Common fireplaces
People have been asking me for a while about merging Barabus' fireplaces into OAAB_Data. I was never completely on board with their design but I finally bit the bullet and made the changes to them that I wanted to make them fit into the game better. I remodeled some things and replaced a lot of the custom textures while replacing some others with new textures. Now there are plain, middle, and rich options to choose from.
Common forge
Dallara recently reached out to me with an interest to contribute to OAAB_Data. So we started going through Dallara's mods for things that could be added to OAAB_Data. One of the things I really liked was this forge. I made some tweaks to it and it's now being included as an option to spice up any common smithy.
Common furniture
The common set actually got a lot of new stuff in this update. I'm not going to go through everything, but some highlights include the new glass doors for bookshelves which can really spice up the style of an interior. They were designed by Shivatheo. R-Zero made some fancy new middle class and rich pieces. Remiros made a rich prayer bench. While I rounded it off with some additions to the plain set. I want to note that the plain grinder is animated and functional (for repairing items like the other grinder in OAAB_Data).
Common crane
We got another cool resource from Dallara in this update which is a new crane design. Everyone loves cranes. This one is designed to work with the OAAB_Data crane kit so it should be pretty easy to start using right away.
De ex additions
The de_ex furniture set got a couple small additions in this update. For Secrets, I made a wall shelf and a standing shelf for the set. For Ashfall, Merlord made a small display stand which works great as a nightstand. And lastly, we nabbed a wattle fence by Siberian Crab from Resdayn Revival to help with exterior detailing.
De rugs and curtains
We got a lot of new rugs in this update mostly thanks to merging in a large portion of The Carpet Pack by Vegetto with artwork by Lukkar.
For Secrets, I also made some new rug runners which can snap together to essentially build your own rugs. We may add more of this type of rug in the future since it seems pretty useful for certain interiors.
RandomPal found a free crumpled rug resource online which I have spent some time optimizing and cleaning up. So a lot of the new rugs now have crumpled versions as well.
We also nabbed these cool curtain models from MwGek's Foreign Quarter Market Square mod. I made a few tweaks to make them work in most dunmer door jams but you will probably still need to scale them slightly depending on the application.
Straw stuff
While poking around in Tamriel_Data's latest update, I found a very nice straw bale and texture. I decided to take the round bale and make a square bale to go along with it. Then I started going through OAAB to replace the old straw texture we used on a couple of other meshes which didn't look as nice. In addition, R-Zero also tossed a prison bed model my way which I made a custom texture for the bed mat that uses this new straw texture for consistency. And since everyone likes straw beds, I also made a new common plain straw bed frame.
As a bonus, some people might remember my Where Merchants Flea ModJam mod from last year which featured a new flea "disease". We've now given a chance for players to get fleas if they sleep in a straw bed.
De rich bar set
Tamriel_Data recently added a rich dunmer bar set which is pretty cool, but it just wasn't how I imagined the set should look. So I took it on myself to make my own. The concept behind this set is that I wanted it to feel more like furniture versus a countertop. So you can combine them into buffets, small display spaces, or long bar tops. It comes with addons like drawer containers and shelves.
Dwemer additions
For the dwemer, we grabbed a couple things from the Madness event, some new things by R-Zero, and then a fancy new centurion chute by me. For Yul Marshee and the Visage of Mzund, MwGek made a driller machine. We made some further tweaks to it and it's being added in this update as new clutter object for dwemer mining operations (which are horribly underrepresented in the game, by the way).
For Secrets, I made dwemer land mine object. These explode if the player gets too close to them. They can be disabled if you sneak up on them and remove their triggering mechanism.
A couple of these are items, not clutter, but I'm including all of R-Zero's new dwemer assets here. By far the coolest is a new animated steamhammer. I can't wait to see this one show up in some mods. But he also made some nifty items including a crowbar and an "amulet" (pocket watch).
Last but not least, C19i (the author of Better Dwemer Interiors) has been poking me for some time about creating a centurion chute like is seen in TES5. So I finally sat down to model and animate it. This object can be hooked up to a new large pipe kit which is being added as well. You can see the chute in action in this video.
Mine rail set
Stripes made an expansion to the mine rail set some time ago as part of a mine overhaul he's working on. I made some optimizations and tweaks to make it easier to use. I expect to see some fancy new mines using this set!
Miscellaneous additions
There are a few more minor additions which modders will find useful as well. We've got a hanging dunmer-style planter, a shack trapdoor without the stone foundation (works great for the OAAB tavern shack), Remiros made The Punished daedric container from TES4 (which looks awesome and uses the new daedric furniture textures which were added in the 2.0.0 update), Anroha modeled up an ornate silver chest which is perfect for storing valuables, and finally I have cleaned up and added Phaedrus' skull candles to add some ambiance to scenes.
Creatures
Ancient lich
I don't remember why, but I have been wanting to add an ancient lich variant for a while. I started concepting the design last year and Olaf helped out with an awesome cloak. I'm really happy with how they turned out. There are two variants. They are only visually different, not functionally. The idea is that these are powerful mini-bosses. The ancient liches are also a source for the new scepter weapons and lich dust which we will get into later on in the blog.
Black spiders
OAAB_Data has had the small parasol spiders for a while. They were made to inhabit the root labyrinths underneath Telvanni towers. However, we've been lacking a generic "giant spider" creature variant which people find useful in dungeons. So I hunted around online and found a cool free resource by NickMh which I made edits to, rigged, and set up with a couple size variants. These spiders can drop a new ingredient called "silkgut". I also made a tweak to an existing ingredient: the spider venom ingredient is now replaced with "spider's milk" which is an ingredient from TESA:Redguard (I added a few different Redguard ingredients in this update, which we'll describe later).
Environment
Geysers
Some people might remember that I started messing around with a geyser model a little while ago. Well, I finally got around to finishing it up for this udpate. Tewlwolow made some excellent sound effects for it which you can hear in this video. In my opinion, one of the coolest things is that these damage any actor which walks into them while they're active. I accomplished this by rapid-firing collision objects out of the geysers which damage any actor they hit. You can see how that looks below:
Kelp
Worsas recently made some awesome kelp models for Tamriel_Data which I couldn't help but nab for OAAB_Data as well. These will be an excellent addition to any grotto.
Light rays
I made a few new light ray assets for Secrets: some clustered rays and some very large rays. You can see some examples of use in that mod.
Mold cave additions
I'm not going to go through everything, but I created some new pieces for the mold cave set in Secrets which are being added in this update. Some of the more interesting things are some cliff pieces and some smooth stalagmites to give mold caves a bit of their own flare.
Mushrooms
A couple of the mushrooms in OAAB_Data were fairly dark and desaturated and were essentially just retextures of the BC mushrooms from vanilla. We didn't see them getting used a lot and we wanted to give them a bit more of their own style. So Remiros created some new models and textures and the old muscaria mushrooms are now chanterelle; in both "glowing" and "vicious" variants.
In addition, there's a brand new type of mushroom being added in this update. Inspired by the wisp stalks from later games, we have the Scypha Mycena mushroom. Commonly known as "netch stalks". The model was originally made by LondonRook. I retextured it and cleaned up the model and UV.
Items
Anroha's weapons
It seems like most updates get to see some great new weapons from Anroha and this one continues the trend. In this update, we have a dreugh bow and arrow, dwemer throwing weapons, a dwemer club, ebony dagger, and an iron longbow.
Ashlander glass weapons
Surprise! These were made by Anroha too. They're just an entire set so I'm including them separately. This weapon set is designed by ashlanders using raw glass to make rough-looking weapons. The handles use a dark chitin material (uses a silt strider texture).
Bread variants
Revenorror made some excellent additions to the vanilla bread with sliced versions as well as a longer baguette-style loaf.
Copperware
To go along with the new fireplaces (which come with potholders if you didn't notice), I wanted to add these awesome copperware pots by Asylum to OAAB_Data. I made some tweaks to them of course, but I also added a new copper kettle which cannot be found in Tamriel_Data (yet).
Dram coins
Drams are a type of dunmer currency mentioned in lore. These are no longer officially in circulation but may be found in some dunmer tombs or other old loot. Some people may be aware of the triune coin which is also in OAAB_Data. The dram predates the triune since it was in circulation before the Tribunal came to power.
Hair clutter items
To fulfill a request we'd had on the wishlist for a while, Anroha made some excellent hair related items. We've got a fancy silver comb, some razors, and a hairbrush.
Concept art helms
In 1.15.0, we added some concept art-inspired Morag Tong helms by Ruffin Vangarr. Well, he made some more helms recently and offered them to OAAB_Data. Each Great House has their own bonemold armor, but no House-specific chitin armor. We're not adding full sets here, but now there are some chitin headgear options that are intended to be used by members of a particular House. From left to right, we have a Netchiman's Cap (not affiliated with a Great House), the Redoran "Face of Vengeance" Sho-Hadad Chitin Helmet, the Telvanni "Hidden Enemy" Mir-Moljuhn Chitin Helmet, and the Hlaalu "Golden Smile" Khestis Chitin Helmet.
Hood changes
OAAB_Data has had hoods to match the vanilla robes for a while, but they always looked a bit bulky. Olaf came along and offered to remodel them for us. So now the hoods have been fully replaced with some excellent new models which are much more stylish (in our opinions).
Books
We don't get too many new books in OAAB_Data, but I'm happy to say that we're getting 4 new books with this release. Lucevar wrote 3 astrology books:
Farmer's Almanac: a reference book published by the Guild of Astrologers for use by farmers and alchemists. Often found in rural households, as it contains a lot of helpful advice and recipes.
Aetherial Ephemeris: a generic almanac for sailors, merchant shipping HQs, the navy, other travelers, etc. Contains notes about the position of celestial bodies useful for navigation, as well as advice on how to deal with problems caused by The Serpent.
The Importance of Knowing Your Place: an instructional letter from a senior mage to his apprentice about the mindset required for successfully summoning daedra.
And then R-Zero wrote another book about a prominent Cyrodilic cult:
Alessian Apologetics: A pamphlet vindicating the heretic Alessian Order's unconventional views and beliefs, written by a contemporary cultist.
Journals
One of the most recent additions to this update are some generic journals. This is something we've been wanting for a while and a new request for them from Juidius spurred me into action. There are 3 variants. Note that these will not be included in OAAB_Data.esm. Like some other objects, they will have examples defined in the OAAB_Cells plugin since a generic version doesn't make sense.
Redguard ingredients
As I mentioned above, this update is getting some new ingredients which are referenced in TESA:Redguard. Specifically, there are 4 new high-end ingredients: lich dust, spriggan's ear, saint's hair, and spider's milk. With OAAB Leveled Lists, these will each be able to be found in creature drops with the exception of Spider's Milk which is a specialty item.
Limeware additions
Another item that's been on our wishlist for a while are some additions to the dwemer limeware set. As usual, Anroha came through with some great, vanilla-friendly designs.
Quivers
This is something we have been talking about for a while after Weapon Sheathing released. Several OAAB_Data members contributed quivers to that mod. In later games, groups of arrows show up as quivers in the game world. So we wanted to offer quivers as a cluttering option. In Weapon Sheathing, the quivers match the bow, but in OAAB_Data, the misc quiver items will match the arrows they hold for a quick visual cue for what you're looting. We've covered every arrow type in the base game as well as OAAB_Data (we showed the dreugh quiver for the new dreugh arrows above).
Glassware additions
As we often do, there are a few general improvements to objects in OAAB_Data. Remiros spent some time not only improving the textures and models for some glassware objects added by OAAB_Data, but also added plates to several OAAB and vanilla sets. Clutterers, rejoice!
Scepters
In this update, we're introducing a new "weapon" type: scepters. These are essentially one-handed staves. In general, they have higher speed but lower enchant values than their two-handed counterparts. There are enchanted options for all of the new scepters. These will be added to leveled loot, but the most surefire way to acquire one is by fighting one of the new ancient lich being added in this update. So far, there are 6 types of scepters: bone, daedric, silver, dwemer, ebony, and glass.
Tools
While going through Dallara's mods, I found some tools and was reminded that we still didn't have a shovel in OAAB_Data. I didn't end up using Dallara's models, but I dug up an old resource by Kiteflyer and modeled some stuff up myself to give us 4 new tools: a rake, hoe, shovel, and draw knife. These will be great for cluttering work areas.
Miscellaneous additions
Finally, we have a few miscellaneous additions to mention. For Secrets, I made a mounted slaughterfish head, a severed sturgeon head, and a wooden tray. Remiros made improvements to several of the tasty food items in OAAB_Data. And lastly, R-Zero made improvements to the unused shackle model from the base game. So it's being included in OAAB_Data and will go along great with the prison bed.
Extras
Metadata
We now include a "metadata" file that allows other mods and tools to detect if OAAB_Data is properly installed and up to date. Using metadata files is entirely optional, but if you're developing a mod that depends on OAAB_Data they can be handy to ensure your users aren't running an outdated version.
To make use of this feature you can add the following section to your own mod's metadata file:
This specifies that your mod depends on OAAB_Data version 2.1.0 or higher. Now if your users try to run the mod without OAAB_Data installed, or with an incompatible version, they will get a nice error message letting them know there's a problem:
Currently only MWSE installs detect metadata files, but we hope other engines and mod managers will add support in the future. The more mods that utilize this feature the more likely that it'll catch on! You can read more about metadata setup and features here.
