torpak/2 packaged by dink
why bittorrent, especially since its not as easy as using xnap/limewire/etc??
with bittorrent, you're almost guaranteed to receive the file you want at
very high speeds, with limewire/xnap, theres a 20% chance you'll actually
receive an entire file thats bigger than 100megs
torpak contains:
python, bittorrent & a nice launcher, preconfured to run without
frying your brain setting up python 'n stuff.
whats new:
updated to the latest version of python + socket updates
updated the bittorrent client. (fixes the "update your client" errors)
changed the default ports to avoid problems with certain trackers
can be installed in Mozilla/2
installation:
unzip dist.zip to c:\tor
make an icon on your wps called torrent/2, using path & filename of:
c:\tor\tor.exe
working directory:
c:\tor
go over to the "Window" tab and for Object open behavior check
"Create new window"
installation in Mozilla/2:
go to edit -> prefs -> helper applications
click New Type, make it look like...
Mime Type: application/x-bittorrent
Description: torrent
Extension: torrent
Open it With: c:\tor\tor.exe
Uncheck the "Always ask..." box
Click OK
click New Type again..
Mime Type: text/plain
Description: torrent
Extension: torrent
Open it With: c:\tor\tor.exe
Uncheck the "Always ask..." box
Click Proceed anyway
how to leech:
go to www.suprnova.org - download some .torrent files to c:\tor. Load a
copy of torrent/2 for every .torrent you downloaded and double click the
.torrent or hit enter on it, then wait a bit and it'll start downloading.
ESSENTIAL:
1: you _must_ install the latest tcp/ip stack fixes, otherwise OS/2 will trap
because of a bug in the stack. Its located at:
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/new/newstack.zip
2: make sure you have the latest emx runtime, located at:
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/dev/emx/v0.9d/emxrt.zip
3: if downloading to a jfs partition, make sure you use jfs.ifs from xr_c004
or higher (recommended: jfs20040308.zip) otherwise your system might trap
due to a bug in the older jfs filesystem builds
4: don't be discouraged by "connection refused from tracker" messages,
it'll connect sooner or later and you'll get your file
5: remember: only download legal/non-pirated material with this application :)
note: sometimes python.exe will die @ startup (after launching a .torrent)
and create an entry in popuplog.os2, this is a bug in python and it only
happens once in a great while. just don't be concerned if this happens,
simply re-launch the .torrent.
