Question about pulling just the movement functionality and NOT surfing

I'd like to use this movement as the base for a spiritual successor to Half-Life. I don't want the surfing mechanics, just really the basic walk, sprint, crouch, jump, and physics system. I hate asking such a vague question here, but how would I do that? There's so much code for surfing I'm having a difficult time figuring out where the basic movement functionality is coming from. Thanks! (If anyone ever reads this lol)
