I'd like to propose an alternative to issue #1160 that @eugeneloza proposed, following his remark on #1159 that he likes his creatures to be greedy. Right now there's message spam on creature payday, and flavor could be added to those messages, but I think it would be a lot more fun if the flavor is added to the game itself.

I think creatures should RUN towards the treasure room on payday, showing their eagerness to get paid because they walk everywhere else. (except perhaps from/towards battle?)

This adds a little bit of fun/humor to the game, some personality to the creatures but also has a gameplay benefit in that it affects how players can construct their dungeons (they can keep into account that there's not as much time lost on payday when the treasure room is distant).

This of course requires running animations to be their for all creatures.

If there are also cheering animations available, you should also make creatures cheer when they get paid in case there's not enough gold to pay all creatures on payday.

The running is a very cool idea. I think the pay day is very frequent and time consuming, and it is often irritating to deal with when you need your minions elsewhere. The pay day is a necessary, but not the most fun part of the game, so I support whatever that can speed it up.

Well, we are lacking animations for this. Almost no model have a run animation. Some don't even have flee...

What's the difference between a flee animation and a run animation?

flee animation is when a creature is hurt and retreats from battle. It will usually run but will also look hurt/scaried

Do you think it is a good idea to include run animations for all future models?

I think it is a good idea to open a forum thread and discuss the animations we want. The more, the better. However, more animations means more work for artists so there is a compromise to do.
IMHO, torture animations, for example, are funnier than a run animation. On the other hand, run animation should not be very hard. That's why it should be discussed ^^

In any case, the way I see it, we should try to think about most of the animations we will need and then, find fallbacks when the models don't have them as we already do (for example, creatures lacking "Sleep" will play "Die")

Running can be used in many more ways than just being funny on payday. There's a good chance it will come up in the future for other things.

As for torture animations, one idea to steal from DK1 is that while a lot of creatures have a torture animation, there's also a torture animation that does not show the creature that is being tortured that is used for creatures that lack the animation, saving a lot of work.

I guess everything is in the forum thread.
