My issue was closed prematurely, so I have to repost.

I have a few MAME games I'd like to play with this amazing piece of software but I can't figure out how to install a game. For example, Simpsons Arcade is 15 files and nothing happens if I drop them into OpenEmu. I do have the 'experimental' version with extra consoles.

I tried zipping up all of the files and an Error popped up saying "Operation can not be completed" then "Could not communicate with the Helper application" when I click the game in OpenEmu. I closed the app and restarted and the same problem occurs.

---EDIT---
The problem was solved by renaming the zip file to the folder name the files came in. Thanks!

I don't use MAME, but usually when there is an error loading a game, there will be a message in the Console.

@AntiqueWhiskey your problem is from three possible things:

  • Your zip file isn't named correctly for the game you're trying to load (it cannot just be named anything you want).
  • Your zip file is out of date and not from a MAME 0.149 romset.
  • Your zip file is missing some other files (bios/system file zip files) that the game requires.

As @okdana suggests, look at console.app for output from the MAME core.

Thanks for the help! It was the name of the zip file. that was causing the errors.
