Students Covenant Code of Conduct

Our Pledge

At OpenMined we pride ourselves on our community that, despite its diversity, is united around our mission. This Code of Conduct exists to ensure that our community remains a safe, respectful and welcoming environment for all, regardless of age, body size, disability, ethnicity, sex characteristics, gender identity and expression, level of experience, education, socio-economic status, nationality, personal appearance, race, religion, or sexual identity and orientation.

Our Standards

By signing up for OpenMined courses, you agree to:

  • Cultivate a positive, supportive learning environment;

  • Use welcoming and inclusive language;

  • Be respectful of differing viewpoints and experiences;

  • Focus on what is best for the community;

  • Show empathy towards other students and members of the OpenMined community;

  • Communicate respectfully and considerately with all students and members of the OpenMined community;

  • Not share content that is obscene, illicit, threatening, or discriminatory;

  • Contribute constructively to discussions with fellow community members; and

  • Notify OpenMined immediately if you become aware of violations to the code at andrew@openmined.org.

Examples of Inappropriate Behaviors

The following behaviors are examples of the types of conduct that will not be tolerated in the OpenMined community:

  • Harassment: Inappropriate, harassing, abusive, discriminatory, derogatory or violent comments or conduct.

  • Discrimination: Offensive comments related to gender or gender identity, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, religion, national origin, disability or disease.

  • Distributing inappropriate images: Use of sexual, violent, graphic, or derogatory images.

  • Bullying: Deliberate intimidation, threats of violence, violent language, or other language (e.g., comments on physical appearance), designed to intimidate, degrade, or shame another person.

  • Sexual harassment: Unwelcome sexual attention.

  • Cheating and plagiarism: Cheating and plagiarism.

  • Self-injury or suicide: Postings in any of our communities that encourage self-injury or suicide. If you or someone you know is exhibiting signs of self-injury or suicide, please find help at the Suicide Prevention Lifeline in the U.S. and Befrienders.org globally.

  • Other harmful conduct: Obscene, fraudulent, indecent, or libelous acts that defame, abuse, harass, discriminate against or threaten others.

Scope

This Code of Conduct applies in the OpenMined Slack community, the courses discussion board, the courses platform and during all online events organized by the OpenMined community.

Violations

OpenMined may take any action regarding your access to the community as it deems appropriate in connection with a violation of this Community Code of Conduct, including, but not limited to, removal of your posts or other content, removing you from our community, or removing you from any or all of our projects and attached platforms.

Reporting Violations

All reports of violations should be submitted to andrew@openmined.org. They will then be reviewed and investigated to determine the appropriate course of action.
