This article about CiviCRM may provide some inspiration and guidance with regards to how we can help sustain projects we're working with, and in turn a project team.

These are some of the CiviCRM sustainability initiatives:

  • Make It Happen (MIH) - campaigns to get or support new features that you’d like to see into the project but which hasn’t been included within core development
  • Hire the Project Team - to develop the features for your next project (providing that it was inline with our wider objectives).
  • Partner Program - for service providers that wanted to financially support the project
  • Member Program - for end users that wanted to do the same.

Let's work on our own variation of this in this doc -

@RichardLitt asked me to clarify what Open Producer collective does and how it relates to OpenCollective.

OpenProducer is a service provider that leverages the OpenCollective platform and community. A few examples of how OpenProducer can provide services are as follows:

Providing services to other collectives

Providing services to OpenCollective

Specific details regarding how funds can be distributed between collectives are still being worked out on the OpenCollective side opencollective/opencollective#345

Thanks @gusaus. That makes more sense.

I added the following regarding the scope of our services to the working doc https://docs.google.com/document/d/1g_IjlDPLclpMSCw76Ntnl6ZhtHxUJ4mmCSHyKveaWcE/edit?usp=sharing

Everything is open source
OpenProducer works on open source projects, educational programs, trainings (online and in-person), etc. that are made available under a free distribution license (e.g., GPL, Creative
Commons, BSD, etc.)
.

No direct to customer/client consulting
While OpenProducer accepts funding for open source work, we do not deliver bespoke solutions directly to clients and customers. We do work with partners to support and expand their client/customer facing offerings. OpenProducer members also have opportunities to work directly on client facing projects for or with partners.
