This way we can show a short video or animation about the app, so that visitors to the site know what the app is about and how to use it, before they even get there!

A nice video intro was really popular about twelve years ago. I wonder why people stopped doing it? Strange.

Intro movies are considered bad UX practise. Also flash doesn't work everywhere like it used to.

I mean, we can't control what you put in the HTML of your loading page, so SWF away if you feel so inclined. Personally, I put a big "NOW LOADING" in a blink tag.
