Currently, ships can only have a Hue and Saturation shift as their color scheme, which applies for everything.
My suggestion is to add another slider for Value, which would affect how gray the ship looks. Maximum value, the default, would mean the ship has color, while minimum value would mean the ship is entirely monotone.
My other related suggestion is to separate Body, Shield and Engine color.
This issue was inspired by some screenshots of some bugged starbases that were entirely black but had shields. Those looked fire as hell, and now i want it. For balance, really dark ships could always come with an outline effect, like that of the Tartarus, which can be disabled for allied ships but is permanently turned on for enemy ships
