If the library is called Polymer, and its guiding principle is that everything is a component, you pretty much have to.

We actually discussed this quite a bit. :)

Ultimately, the problem is that only a subset of elements are 'monomers' and there are many more that are themselves compositions of other elements, in which case calling them 'monomers' is probably incorrect.

There is still a lot of fun to be had with this naming I think. :)

For correctness, maybe you could call them prepolymers, or precursors, but monomer just seems easier to understand.

But any particular custom element can have arbitrary 'molecular weight'.
