Hello, I'm new to this so not sure if I'm missing a step.

The original file is Havok 6.1.0 I think. I used HCT 2014.1.0 to convert to binary packfile.
files.zip

I'm using v1.10, 32-bit plugin for 32-bit 3DS Max 2010. I get the initial import window, but upon clicking import, 3DS Max crashes with Application Error.

Hi.
I'm dropping 32bit support with next release.

Ah, ok. Thank you for the heads up.

I tried it out using 64bit now and it doesn't crash, but it looks a bit strange.
There are some "couldn't find bone" warnings and Instead of a skeleton, it loads a bunch of dummy helpers that have the animation names instead.
Clicking play doesn't show any recognizable animations, but they do rotate/translate a little bit.

Here's a screenshot of what I'm looking at:
havokmax_help

Is it just a problem with this type of Havok file?

The issue with crashing will be fixed in V1.11.2+.
The problem here is, that skeleton is using only bone names, that means bone links and reference pose are missing.
In order to correctly load animation, at least bone links must be present.
I have no idea what is this from, but you could load real skeleton data, and then load animation. (You could also remove hkaSkeleton from packfile.)

Crash was fixed in V1.12, that's all I can do.

Mistook you for original poster.
Tell me, why do you post to other's issue that have nothing to do with your particular problem?
