Just now installed using wordpress's plugin installer.

Shows an error.

Gitium requires minimum git version 1.7!

git version on the server:

git --version
git version 1.7.10.4

(apache2, Debian wheezy, wordpress 4.1)

Something wrong on server side or could it be a bug?

This is for sure a bug. This can be also a fixed bug, because the Gitium version from WP repository is different that the code from Github. Can you, please, retest this bug with the current code from Github? Thanks!
