Installing SphereOS

It is not recommended to use real hardware for installing SphereOS, so this tutorial will show you how to install it in a virtual machine.

Step 1. Install VMware

To begin, you will need to install either version of VMware:

VMware Player (free)

VMware Workstation (paid)

Step 2. Download files

Next, you will need to download the necessary files for installing SphereOS.

Step 3. Set up the Virtual Machine

To set up your virtual machine, follow these steps:

  • Open VMware and create a new virtual machine (Ctrl+N)

  • When prompted to choose an operating system, select the SphereOS.iso file you downloaded in Step 2

  • Once your virtual machine has been created, head to its settings (Edit virtual machine settings).

  • Remove the existing hard drive, as SphereOS cannot use it.

  • Add a new Hard Disk, and choose the disk image you downloaded in Step 2 (Filesystem.vmdk)

  • Adjust the memory of the virtual machine. For the GUI, the recommended value is 2 GB. For the console, the recommended value is 256 MB. You can find more detailed hardware requirements here.

Step 4. Start SphereOS!

Now that your virtual machine is set up, you can power it on and start using SphereOS!
