Hello all,

This is an announcement to share that I'm planning on sunsetting all my Minecraft plugin projects.

A few of you are already aware of the fact that I'll be switching jobs soon. My employment contract is much more strict with regards to what external software engineering activities I'll be able to carry out, and I'll soon no longer be at liberty to work on a premium project such as Advanced Achievements.

Advanced Achievements has been actively developed since early 2015, and is itself a fork of the Achievement project created in 2011 (https://dev.bukkit.org/projects/achievement). In August 2015, it became open-source and in August 2020 a move to premium on Spigot was initiated to make donations easier, deter low quality users and help fund the past 14 months of development. To date, there have 150 updates and approximately 60000 lines of code written. Not many Minecraft authors can showcase such numbers, almost 7 years later, it seems like a reasonable point to end the project.

I realise that this announcement will come as a disappointment to some of you. As a gesture of good faith, I'm planning a series of updates in the coming days:

  • an update featuring new achievement categories.
  • an update future-proofing compatibility with new Minecraft versions, for example so that the Fireworks category keeps on working.
  • an update dropping support for old Minecraft versions and upgrades from old plugin installations, but further future-proofing compatibility with new Minecraft versions and improving the plugin's performance.
  • any other updates fixing critical bugs.

These should hopefully ensure that Advanced Achievements keeps on working smoothly for years to come.

As there'll only be a finite number of updates planned, the suggested donation price has been halved with immediate effect for any new users. The Spigot project and GitHub repository will be archived sometime at the beginning of November.

Hopefully I've covered everything, let me know if any information is missing!
