When uploading a spreadsheet with both point and polygon geometry and willing to generate a point shapefile, it creates an output table of both points and polygon, with empty geometry for polygons. Moreover, indication of a column with a polygon geometry generates points, too. Checked on v.3.22 and v.3.26.

You can access the data through Excel -> Get Data -> Other Sources -> OData Feed (you get the link from Central, and you will need a user and password with appropriate rights, use Basic autth) then transform it the way you need it with Power Query, load it and export it to CSV. The idea is that this way you will get the geometry columns as WKT which is fully recognized in QGis. You just then just need to specify the geometry column. If you have lines with no data in the geometry column, you can drop empty geometries after. In this way you don't need the plugin anymore. Hope it helps.
