I've got the following issues with Soundflower and Yosemite, on a 2012 Mac Mini:

  • If Soundflower is running Mac won't go in sleep mode. Screen Saver won't start either.
  • After Mac wakes up from sleep Soundflower process often closes (crashes?). When it doesn't crash the audio channel switches automatically from HDMI to none.

It worked perfectly on Mavericks and previous OS X versions.

P.S. I only use it to being able to manage monitor volume from keyboard, as OS X doesn't able to do it on an HDMI signal. :(

Well, to be honest I've no the crackling sound issue, it plays perfectly. With the exception of the problems listed above. :)

i removed 1.6.6b, rebooted, reinstalled, rebooted. i now get sound however there's a light crackle. i noticed that as system load goes up the crackling becomes more noticeable. unstalling now, will try again when there's a fix.

Did you check the 'Audio MIDI setup'? In my case, there are sound distortion when the sampling rate of in/out device and Soundflower are different.
For example,

  1. Soundflower(2ch) - 44100Hz
  2. HDMI - 48000Hz
  3. Routing Soundflower(2ch) output to HDMI can make distortion.
  4. Soundflower(2ch)'s sampling rate may reset sometimes when you reboot the OS. (default 44.1kHz?)

@lbjcom everything set to 96000.0 across the board for every one of my outputs.

@lbjcom here was freezing exactly because the format was different, tks for the tip 😄

Thanks for the hint about different sampling rates @lbjcom and @eduardojmatos. Soundflowerbed worked fine for a whole day after i installed it but stopped working overnight. It would just beachball whenever i selected the 'Aggregate Device' on the Soundflowerbed menu.

Reviewing the Audio MIDI setup, I noticed that Soundflower (2ch) had 48000Hz and the devices on my 'Aggregate Device' where at 44100Hz. Once I switched Soundflower (2ch) to 44100Hz, it all started to work properly.

Awesome!
