One of the top questions I got when first showing off the web maps was if people could customize their own. I love spreading the knowledge of how to map and how to make fantasy maps with real-world mapping software, but I was hesitant to let people get an extended peek behind the curtain since I was trying to do this as an occupation. I was also hesitant since I had my API tokens and such in the code.
But now I want to open it all up (minus the API tokens) and let folks truly create and edit their own web maps if they so wish! I've added a Webmap folder, which holds a copy of the html, javascript, css, and image assets behind the web map!
The web map won't work as is, since there is no token in there. You'll need to create a Mapbox account and use your own token that it provides for you. There are comments in
exandria.js
within the first 50 lines that tell you what to change. the Exandria map tiles are in there by default. For best results, copy the tiles to your own account with the links in the map instantiation (lines 26-44) and then replace thestyle
value on line 30 with your own. This addition is not tied to the actual web map and I won't be monitoring pull requests much for it. If there is something you wish to develop and have it in the public map, feel free to submit a request and I can take a look!
Refer to the Twitch and Youtube Tutorials in the README for some more insight into how it all works if you need help! Happy mapping!
