Meet Team 4050

Ryan H. [Captain] -- I am 18 and a senior attending PAVCS. This is my fourth year of FIRST Robotics. I am honored to be Captain of the 4-H Robotics teem Biohazard 4050 as I have enjoyed every bit of it. I also enjoy working with new members teaching them what I have learned in the electrical and engineering aspects with my fellow mentors and preparing them for the FRC season. I have a passion for art and skateboarding. I have my own skateboard company Dead Mouse. I have been making and creating boards for 9 years. I design and create all my graphics by hand. My art is influenced by Leonardo da Vinci, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Keith Haring. I am also the current President of the 4-H Robotics Club.

Kyle V. [Co-Captain] -- I am a Junior and am homeschooled. I have been in 4-H for 9 years. This is my 2nd year in Biohazard 4050. I work on the mechanical and electrical systems of the robot, as well as help with the design. I am also Vice-President of the Franklin County 4-H Robotics Club. I enjoy build season and going to competitions, as well as many of the opportunities through 4-H, such as State Days and Sam’s Camp.

Carlee B. [Secretary] -- I am a homeschooler in 10th grade. I am on the robotics team because I like doing different things. I also serve as Secretary of the 4-H Robotics Club.

Timmy M. [Treasurer] -- I am 16 years old and a junior at PA Virtual. This is my second year in the robotics club and this year I was elected treasurer. I usually work the mechanical parts of the robot and building prototypes. I enjoy graphic designing and making things with my hands. I serve as Treasure of both the FRC Club and the Robotics Club.

Vincent M. -- I am a Senior at Chambersburg High School. I have been in to robotics for a long time. In December of 2011 I heard that Franklin County 4-H was starting a robotics club so I joined. I participated in our team’s first competition, Rebound Rumble. I'm interested in science, the medical field, and art. Leonardo Da Vinci is my favorite role model. He has influenced me a lot on the careers and interests that I want to pursue.

Micah Y. [Inventory Specialist] -- I'm a Sophomore at PA Virtual Charter School. This is my third year on the team, and I'm very proud of what we've accomplished in the past year. As Inventory Specialist, my job is to keep track of parts and tools. When it comes to creating the robot, I usually help with the design and building of the robot. I am also the Event Coordinator for the 4-H Robotics Club.

Lexi D. [Media Specialist] -- Hi! I’m Lexi, and I’m fifteen years old and in tenth grade at a cyber-charter school. I have been a member of this club for four years: I handle the majority of the writing projects and am a scouter. I love this Robotics Team because even though I don’t want to be an engineer for the rest of my life, I still learn valuable mathematics and life-long concepts every year. Robotics isn’t the only thing I do, and my free time is devoted in my youth group, a Leadership Training Program, school, learning guitar, and making soup. A lot of my other time is spent working with noveling and the aspects of publishing. I am also the News Reporter for the 4-H Robotics Club.

Olivia H. -- I’m in 9th grade at PA Virtual, this is my 4th year with team Biohazard and I love it. I enjoy cooking, baking, sewing, knitting, crocheting, the beach, and camping. I also love creating new innovative nail designs, finding new techniques to improve the way I apply makeup, and anything to do with fashion. I love the music of Sam Smith, Lady Gaga, Avicii, and so many more artists and I play piano. I enjoy the challenges each year, traveling, trying and learning new things like using power tools, and hanging out after each day of regionals.

Chad B. -- I am a homeschooler in 10th grade. I am on the robotics team because I want to be an engineer.

Prof. Siegfried "Zig" H. -- Being now retired from Penn State University ( Prof. of Mechanical Engineering ) gives me time to do the things I love and being a mentor for our robotics club is one of those things. A major concern of mine is the health of our planet so the 2015 challenge - Recycling Rush - is especially close to my heart. It is fantastic to see how recycling has become a strong part of the philosophy of our club. On the home front we are well on our way to living a carbon-neutral life style. Solar panels, pellet wood stove, gardening and vegan diet were essential to advance in this direction. But we are not quite there yet ....

Troy Y. -- I am a Chief Engineer at JLG Industries and a Mentor for the Robotics Club. My two oldest sons (Micah and Nathaniel) are members of the club. I train and support the team members on 3D CAD modeling (Creo Parametric) and prototype part fabrication. I enjoy seeing the team members create and build the parts of the robot and bring them together into a functioning robot.

Daryl S. -- This is my second year as a mentor and I am the proud father of Carson and Connor, who are also on the team as student members. I have been in the consumer electronics field for over 20 years and I currently work for LG Electronics. I try to be involved with the team wherever my help is needed. The best part of being on the team is seeing the individual talents and strengths of the student members and seeing that talent pulling together for a common goal.

Willie D. -- Hello... I'm one of those people who love to 'think out-side the box' to explore & find solutions to problems. An engineer, by trade, with a few claims to fame; a National award for a superior welded chassis design from James F. Lincoln Arc Welding Foundation, a patent for a stabilization mechanism used on lift equipment, and a design of a high-speed, compact 4-section telescopic boom, capable of elevating 5 tons to a 56 foot height in 12 seconds. LeTourneau University & Penn State University trained me well for exercising my bachelor of science in mechanical engineering. Structural and analytical skills were honed at Grove Manufacturing (now Manitowoc Cranes), for 10 years in their chassis & stress departments. At Ingersoll-Rand, for 12 years, for a new design launch of rough terrain Variable Reach Fork Lifts. Currently, at Volvo Construction Equipment, as senior design & systems engineer for Motor Graders. Happily married for 21 years now, with one amazing daughter... Enjoy working with all ages of people... Love getting together with folks at church... Becoming a better carpenter & furniture maker...Blessed to be part of a wonderful family.
