Situation Description & Motivation

Description

Situation Description

The incorporation of an environmental surveillance module into SORMAS will allow the SORMAS users a comprehensive overview in real-time of environment spots with transmission potential and provides the basis for early warning mechanisms for potential outbreaks in the human and animal interface as well as for risk assessment. The module supports initiating containment procedures. Different reservoirs are relevant, but the focus here is on wastewater sources.

In order to produce a minimal viable product, as fast as possible, to support international audiences making use of SORMAS, resources and literature from international organizations such as WHO and DC have been consulted in an attempt to provide a module that may possibly address basic user needs.

The module has to be configurable in the database settings (i.e. can be switched on/off per instance and can be used stand-alone)
Introduce the environmental (water) surveillance module functionality into SORMAS

The module has to be configurable in the database settings (i.e. can be switched on/off per instance and can be used stand-alone)
The module should be added to mobile and web app
Add new user rights for entity "environment", this can be to create users to manage the env entity :

Userole name: Environmental Officer ( this does not need to be hard coded, but can be created by admins)
add user rights called "Environment Surveillance" with similar rights as in case surveillance, such as:

  • View existing envv

  • create new env

  • export env from sormas

  • edit env (edit all attributes for now)

  • merge env

  • Import env

  • archive env

  • etc

  • Add the possibility to import env entities

  • Add the possibility to export env entities

  • Add duplicate detection of env entities + merge duplicates

  • Add a dashboard to view the location of env samples. Already implemented in Add sample status map to sample dashboard [5] #10745

  • Add option to document action performed on env entity, similar to actions for events.

Use cases

  • Random selection of water sources, collection of samples and test for the presence of Vibrio cholerae (cholera pathogen) to prevent outbreaks
