man sssd does not state that HUP signal can be sent to it to reload configuration but /etc/init.d/sssd does send a HUP on reload (RHEL 6 beta 2 refresh, sssd-1.2.1).
It would be nice to reflect this in the documentation.
In briefly looking at these source files:
src/monitor/monitor.c
src/monitor/monitor_sbus.c
src/util/debug.c
It looks like sssd closes and re-opens logfiles, but does not restart any responders or providers on HUP. This means sending sssd a HUP will not reload the various daemons and will only cause it to flush and re-open new log files.
