Per a conversation with Lukas Slebodnik (https://www.redhat.com/archives/freeipa-users/2015-April/msg00526.html) it seems like the problems associated with roles and permissions having the same name (see https://fedorahosted.org/sssd/ticket/2471) might be an issue in the latest Ubuntu 14.04 package:

cat /etc/lsb-release

...
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS"

sssd --version

1.11.5

This ticket is a request for the fix for that ticket to be backported to the SSSD release for Ubuntu 14.04.

The SSSD upstream is Fedora-based. Please open a bug with Ubuntu:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sssd
