One might use a regular composite to mark e.g. the parts to a section of the song (bridge, intro, chorus, ...).
A script loop should be able to reference such parts for playback, while also simultaneously marking specific loops in the composite for recording.

If a loop is triggered multiple times with different modes by different (or the same) composites/scripts, there should be a well-defined priority (i.e. recording should take preference over playback).
