Not so much an issue, but I wanted to document some of my experiences using this EFI.
Has anyone experimented with the latest bios update from Gigabyte and whether TB is improved?
The documentation for the update lists TB compatibility as one of the fixes: 1. Checksum : 17D9
2. Improve the compatibility of non-K CPU with CXMT / Unic memory 3. Improve Thunderbolt compatibility issues
I have the ATX variant of this motherboard, this update was listed as F8f for this board, but is equivalent to the Z590i F8g.
I updated to F8f from F8b and it looks like TB has markedly improved in Windows.
I have a Razer Core X with an RX 590 connected via Thunderbolt (Similar to your previous setup @SchmockLord) and an internal RTX 3080, which is disabled via an SSDT.
Now for the snags, I updated my OC to 0.9.0 along with the necessary kexts, upon successful boot I updated MacOS to 13.2.1 using system preferences (OTA) which resulted in instant KP on boot. I gave your newest OC 0.8.8 a shot, it booted fine after removing SSDT-DTPG.aml + SSDT-MAPLE-RIDGE-RP05-V2.aml otherwise I'd have a black screen after the apple logo (I'm assuming it wasn't detecting my eGPU). I also removed the USB map SSDT and used my own that I generated from USBToolBox and booted into 0.9.0 successfully.
Do you think this is potentially another issue with the BIOS and Thunderbolt? It would be interesting to see if anyone would be brave enough to update to F8g and see if they have similar behaviours to me.
Another strange behaviour is when the boot sequence is complete – I switch my output on my monitor to display my RX 590 – it stays on the apple logo for ~2 minutes before getting to the login screen, even if I have verbose enabled, it just sits on the apple logo, before these updates it would boot instantly. I have SetApfsTrimTimout = 0, so it's not that, I was just curious if anyone else was seeing a similar issue on OC 0.9.0/13.2.1/F8g≡F8f?
Also, I wanted to thank you for your transparency and updates to this EFI, it's helped countless times when I've ran into issues with my machine. 🙌
Edit for spec list:
