I have just attempted to re-install the package after resetting folder permissions with my hosting provider and now it seems to have installed properly.

I lack the experience with the package install mechanics to know if this could have anything to do with it.

Seems strange, others have reported something similar but I can't reproduce either. I'll keep an eye on this though and if I can replicate will figure out why it's happening. Glad you got it working in the end though.

I think that in general, the package installer is not the most stable part of U7, it' s manageable but there are some moments when the whole process can go a bit wonky.

I cannot say for sure but I am under the impression that my hosting company has some issues with write permissions seemingly randomly resetting to some default value. Usually that is when installer will fail. Forcing 777 on all folders usually remedies it.

But again, I couldn't say if that really is the issue but e.g. installing Contour almost never works on the first go.

I agree, the packaging section needs a complete overhaul and is flaky. Hopefully we can fix that all up soon!
