step-by-step instructions to install Cypress:
Step 1: Install Node.js
- Go to the official Node.js website (https://nodejs.org/)
Step 2: Open a Terminal or Command Prompt
- On Windows, press the Windows key, type "cmd", and press Enter to open Command Prompt
- On macOS, press Command + Spacebar, type "Terminal", and press Enter to open Terminal
- On Linux, you can open the Terminal using your preferred method (e.g., keyboard shortcut, application launcher)
Step 3: Install Cypress globally
- In the open terminal, type the following command and press Enter:
```
npm install -g cypress
```
- Wait for the installation process to complete. It may take a few minutes.
Step 4: Verify the installation
- In the same terminal window, run the following command:
```
cypress -v
```
- If the installation was successful, you should see the Cypress version number displayed.
Step 5: Initialize the Cypress project
- In the terminal, navigate to the desired directory for your Cypress project using the `cd` command. For example:
```
cd /path/to/my/project
```
- Once inside the project directory, initialize Cypress by running the following command:
```
cypress open
```
- This will create a `cypress` folder along with some example files in your project directory.
Step 6: Launch Cypress Test Runner
- After the initialization is complete, the Cypress Test Runner will automatically launch, displaying the Cypress interface.
- You can now start writing and running your Cypress tests.
Congratulations! Cypress is now installed and ready to use for testing your application.
