Version 3.32
HELP:
When OFF, an item has a black background, when ON, red.
An item is selected by moving the cursor over it and
hitting SPACE or by typing the first letter of the name
within (lower case items only). To get HELP about an
item just move the cursor over it and press F1.
QUIT:
This will exit the program and update the QLIB_USE
parameters with the current options and screen position.
Debug:
When ON, the $$off directive is suppressed and all
statements in the program are compiled.
When OFF, statements between $$off and $$on are ignored.
Stats:
When ON, statistics regarding memory usage are always
printed when a program halts. This lets you see how
much heap and stack are actually required.
When OFF, statistics are only printed if the program
stops with an error.
Source file:
Enter the name of the file to be compiled. This must
be either a Q_Liberator work file or a file produced
by QSAVE. The extensions _wrk or _sav should not be
entered unless you want to force the compiler to
compile from a QSAVEd file.
Object file:
This is the name which will be given to the compiled
program. It defaults automatically to end in _obj when
the source file name is entered, but can be changed
to another name if required.
Report file:
If you want to divert the report which the compiler
produces to another device, enter its name here.
eg SER1 or MDV1_LIST
Job name:
The name of the job as it will be displayed by the
QJ command can be entered here. It defaults auto-
matically when the source file name is entered.
Compile:
This will start Q_Liberator compiling the specified
source file with the selected options. If no file name
has been specified then the compiler will refuse to
start.
Lines:
When ON, a line number table is included in the program
and any error messages will print the bad line number.
When OFF, the program will be 6 bytes/line smaller, but
error messages less useful. If calculated GO TOs or
RESTOREs or ERLIN is used, this option is always ON.
Names:
When ON, the names of all variables which are passed to
machine code extensions are included, permitting you to
omit quotes around file or device names. eg OPEN #3,con_
When OFF, programs will be shorter, but names must
always be in quotes. eg OPEN #3,'con_'
Run:
When ON the compiled program will have its own copy
of the runtime system permanently linked to it, and
will be correspondingly larger.
When OFF, the runtime system QLIB_RUN must be memory
resident before the program can be executed.
Auto:
When ON, all FOR loops will use integer arithmetic
wherever possible, making many programs run much faster.
When OFF, all FOR loops will use floating point
arithmetic, except where DEF_INTEGER has been used.
Beep:
When ON, all cursor movement is accompanied by an
annoying click. More usefully, your attention is
drawn to compiler errors and warnings by a Beep.
When OFF, all is quiet.
Winds:
When ON, the standard windows #0,#1 and #2 will be
open when the program starts.
When OFF, the compiled program must open all its own
windows. Winds is best switched off when QRAM is used.
MOVE:
This command lets you reposition this job's windows
to another part of the screen. Just move the cursor
which appears to the appropriate position and press
ENTER. The new position becomes the default when the
compiler is exited with Quit.
Patch:
Select Patch when you are satisfied with the values and
options set. It commits the changes to the object file.
Heap: Input range 32 to 512k (even)
The heap area is used for dynamic data i.e. strings and
arrays. It is automatically allocated as required, but
setting an adequate initial value avoids unnecessary
heap fragmentation.
Channels: Input range 3 to 99
This parameter reserves channel table space in the job.
It should be at least as large as the highest channel
in the program + 1. Making the channel table too small
will cause the QL to crash.
Buffer: 2 to 32k (even)
The input buffer size for JS and later ROMS can be
specified here. A large size is necessary if long strings
are to be read in an INPUT statement.
Stack: 128 to 32k (even)
The stack requirements of a program are best determined
by specifying a large value and observing the actual
usage with the statistics option on. The runtime system
cannot guarantee to trap all errors caused by
insufficient stack.
Filename:
Enter the name of the Release 3 object file to be
patched. The '_obj' extension must be included.
Trace:
When Trace is ON statement separators are inserted in
the object code. Then if an error is reported the
error console will show the statement number after
the line number. In the future this option will
support the Q_Liberator debugger.
