Toolbar: Login state can get stale after period of time forcing reinstall of plugin

I noticed this morning a weird problem. I left yesterday afternoon still logged in as admin. Came back this morning and still could navigate through the depot (so figured I'm still logged in). However, when I wanted to start testing again I looked up at the toolbar and noticed that the toolbar thinks I'm logged out. blank picklists and login button visible. I clicked on login, got the login page. Logged in as a different user. The depot reflected the new user (evident by the Welcome, message). Yet the toolbar was still thinking I was logged out.

The only way to get working again and being able to trail seems to be reinstalling the plugin. This is definitely something that needs addressing asap.
