Cannot use offline calendar without Google account on Android 5.1.1 #50

Hi,

When I create a new calendar in "Offline Calendar" and then start the Google calendar app on Android 5.1.1 I am still asked to log into a Google account.

When I first go to Settings->Accounts->Add Account and select "Offline Calendar" as account provider, then create a new calendar, the new calendar is not shown as an account in Settings.

Bottom line is I cannot use Google Calendar app without first logging into a Google account.

Is this the expected/wanted behavior?

This is a brand new device that never had any accounts linked to it.

Thanks

I think this is the expected behaviour: the Google Calendar app requires a Google account iirc. So the solution would be to use another app. Fortunately, Dominik made the AOSP calendar work as a installable app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.sufficientlysecure.standalonecalendar). Another, more sleek looking option would be Etar (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ws.xsoh.etar).
