4.9.5 gets stuck downloading from TVDB

Bug Details

Using the new 4.9.5 version I tried scraping Twin Peaks, it just got stuck on the Currently Downloading pop up window, like it couldn't connect to TVDB correctly (70533 TVDB code).

Logs produced nothing useful.

Returned to v 4.9.4 and all worked correctly.

I just tried several attempts to cause failure with the new 4.9.5 Downloading pop-up. I was unable to get it to lock up. My attempts included, among other things, a Full Scan, a (beta) TVDB Accuracy Check, and a Forced Refresh of Twin Peaks (which I already had in my library.)
My suggestion would be for daveRobertsDigital to redownload 4.9.5 from Github and try another install.

This exact thing happened to me as well, scan wouldn't work, force refresh wouldn't work, all of them hung on "currently downloading" and never doing anything.
but only on the auto open after doing the install.
closed the app, re-opened, everything started working as expected.

If you see the issue again, please use a log tail tool such as http://www.baremetalsoft.com/baretail/ to monitor the log files https://www.tvrename.com/manual/technical/#log-files

a) that will tell you whether it has really hung - or whether its doing some thing behind the scenes, and
b) give you an indication of what's wrong and can fix, or
c) give us some more information on what's been going on so we can fix it

4.9.5 does have some code that identifies if the local copy is out of date and then do a full refresh to update itself, so that maybe the cause - in which case, just be patient and let it catch up

Just updated to 4.9.6 (from 4.9.1) and saw the same - just sitting without visible progress on "Currently Downloading: Getting updates list from TVDB" for 10 minutes.
Looking at \Users<username>\AppData\Roaming\TV Rename\log\TVRename.log confirmed that it was actually doing stuff - paginating through updates 500 at a time by the looks of it (since 2 weeks ago for me).
After another 6 minutes the progress started appearing.

So like SirSparkles said, just let it do its thing and check the log if in doubt.

Would be nice if some progress could be displayed during that process.

It should only have to do the catch up if it is more than 3 months behind,so its pretty rare. (we can no longer request recent updates from TVDB and have to start again)

Now its up to daye, keep an eye out and see if it happens again

I ran it again yesterday and it still took 5 minutes to "Scan Recent". Doesn't really bother me now that I know it's doing it in the background.

@paoloalby based on your log, it is fetching the updates but has over a month of catching up to do. Have you tried letting it run for about 20-30 minutes?

This happens to me on a almost every 10 days basis. It will be running for 20+ minutes, and sometimes starts working. Stuck at :

Currently Downloading: Getting updates list from TVDB

And it just hangs. I understand people are saying it might happen if it hasnt been ran in a while, but Ive never had these issues like this, and I ran it <14 days ago
