Checklist

  • I am able to reproduce the bug with the latest version given here: CLICK THIS LINK.
  • I made sure that there are no existing issues - open or closed - which I could contribute my information to.
  • I have read the FAQ and my problem isn't listed.
  • I have taken the time to fill in all the required details. I understand that the bug report will be dismissed otherwise.
  • This issue contains only one bug.
  • I have read and understood the contribution guidelines.

Affected version

0.27.0

Steps to reproduce the bug

  1. Install NewPipe version 0.27.0, then start it.
  2. The problem occurs only for specific videos. The following is a link to one of the videos that it does affect.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOGgw5fUgro
  3. On the screen, if you're showing the comments section, switch to the "Video description" section.
  4. Try to scroll down to see more of the "Video description" section. It will (randomly) not scroll down at all. By that, I mean that it will EVENTUALLY let you scroll down, but it usually takes several swipes for it to do so (sometimes more than 10 swipes). It doesn't matter where on the screen you swipe either.
  5. It seems to depend on if you use a normal swipe (which it usually ignores) or a long-press swipe (which usually works). Also, it is (mostly) dependent on either my device or my android version. (I discuss that in more detail below.)

Expected behavior

Using normal swipes to scroll down on a video's "Video information" section should be as responsive as using long-press swipes.

Actual behavior

If you use normal swipes to scroll down on a video's "Video information" section, that is usually not effective, although doing that often enough EVENTUALLY does get it to scroll down.

Logs

Affected Android/Custom ROM version

Android 14 (not rooted)

Affected device model

Samsung galaxy tab S9

Additional information

This seems to be (mostly) dependent on either my device or my device's android version, because I have 2 devices.
AFFECTED DEVICE = Samsung galaxy tab S9 (android 14, not rooted)
NOT AFFECTED DEVICE = Samsung galaxy tab A7 (android 11, not rooted)
Also, the "not affected" device IS sometimes affected, but only RARELY & hard to duplicate, whereas the affected device is always affected for specific videos.

I know that this a minor bug (& mostly device/android version specific too), so I'll understand if fixing it is a low priority.

Since these are tablets I'm assuming you have the tablet layout enabled? Try disabling it.

I just checked. It is enabled. Strangely, before I updated NewPipe on both devices (at the same time), I had both of their (total) settings set identically to each other. After I read your suggestion, I checked both of their settings again. Even though I used "Update" (instead of uninstalling the old versions & then installing the new versions), on my Samsung galaxy tab S9, most of NewPipe 0.27.0's settings got reset to default, while on my Samsung galaxy tab A7, NewPipe kept my older settings. Took about 5 minutes to go through BOTH of their settings & make them match again.

Anyway, changing the suggested setting seems to fix the problem, although NewPipe's appearance still 'looks' EXACTLY the same as before.

I request that this bug report should be re-opened (the "open" button doesn't seem to work for me) because I've found out that this bug's solution causes a different (but demonstrably related) bug. Here is a link to the related bug.

It's enough if one bug is open. You can update the other one to give the full picture.

Bugs can be reopened by you if you were the one to close them.
