We really need a privacy policy. I generated this for free at https://www.privacypolicygenerator.info

Privacy Policy for Texas Camp

At Texas Camp, accessible from https://2019.texascamp.org, one of our main priorities is the privacy of our visitors. This Privacy Policy document contains types of information that is collected and recorded by Texas Camp and how we use it.

The information collected by log files include internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, Internet Service Provider (ISP), date and time stamp, referring/exit pages, and possibly the number of clicks. These are not linked to any information that is personally identifiable. The purpose of the information is for analyzing trends, administering the site, tracking users' movement on the website, and gathering demographic information.

Is this to cover just the website or the camp as a whole? For the site we do newsletters signups so we also collect email/name.

If it's the whole camp, we have a attendee questionaire which also collects more personal information. At the camp we might collect other stuff for surveys, and take ppls pictures.

Ahh yah. In that case maybe we need a more comprehensive policy then

We could check this service out:
https://www.freeprivacypolicy.com/free-privacy-policy-generator.php

It's way more robust. However, despite the name, it probably won't end up being "free".

^ This is a really weird question. If you agree to follow the law, you have to pay $9, but if we don't agree then it's free?

So for a slightly more robust privacy policy through that other site, it would be $37 (assuming I answered the questions correctly). I'm not sure if we want to do that this time around or not. The main purpose for this was demography tracking in GA, but we can save that for next year if we really wanted to.

The example in OP is scoped to just the website, so that's probably acceptable. It does bring up the question on whether this is considered a "contract" or not. Since people have to "agree" it's probably something we're supposed to get approved by open collective.

This Privacy Policy applies only to our online activities and is valid for visitors to our website with regards to the information that they shared and/or collect in Texas Camp. This policy is not applicable to any information collected offline or via channels other than this website.

I would suggest the following changes:

  • title is explicit about website "Privacy Policy for Texas Camp Website"
  • we don't serve ads, so delete "Privacy Policies" and "Third Party Privacy Policies"
  • add a section "personal information" that says we collect name/email for newsletter signups (I don't think we need legalese here, just wing it)
  • We don't have a "terms and conditions" so remove that part in last sentance

Okay. I'll do it when I get a moment.
