Currently the only way of knowing if alerts aren't sent as they should be is checking the log messages in alertengine.log.
If an alert can't be sent because the address type of the connected address blacklisted that should be reported back to the user in the web interface, both in profiles (if a profile is connected to such an address) and under alert addresses.
