Dota Client Freezing as soon as a game is accepted #1109

Hello,

I can't launch into a game of Dota 2 since the 7.00 patch.

I have been playing the game for 3 years on exactly the same system and never had a problem before.
I can launch the Dota client and the app runs fine, I can customise my heroes browse the shop everything.

The issues begins when I try to play a game.

I begin to queue and all goes well, Dota locates me a game and asks me to accept. As soon as all 10 people have hit accept my game freezes. I am running on a MacBook Pro and the cursor begins to display the spinning beachball, a quick review of Activity Monitor on my Mac shows that the Dota 2 app has stopped responding as it is is highlighted in red and reads as such.

This behaviour has been exhibited for a while and has never caused me a problem as after about 20 - 30 seconds whatever caused the problem disappears and I can successfully load into the game without having to do anything other than wait for the App to become responsive again.

However with the 7.00 update it seems the time to load into a match has been reduced from 2:00 minutes to about 15 seconds, as such when I hit accept now, my Mac pauses, beachballs and after about 25 seconds displays the message 'The game was unable to locate the Server', what makes this worst the game registers this delayed load time as a failure to ready up and prevents me from matchmaking.

I am currently unable to queue for 24 hours despite readying up in every game.

So far I have tried:

  • Various restarts of the App, of Steam and of my computer
  • Verifying local content
  • Putting all graphic settings back to basic
  • Using default loading screen, map, terrain etc
  • Deleting local content and reinstalling the game.

Non of this has worked.

Could you advise on next steps please.

Thank you,

James

Can you post your full system information from Steam?

As for next steps I don't have any concrete suggestions at the moment, we aren't seeing this problem. We'll have to see if others see the same thing and whether we can find a common thread.

As I continue to research this problem I have stumbled across another user who's game is hanging at the exact same point as mine (all players accepted but just before loading screen) -

Server was unable to locate game session after 7.0 patch.
Dota worked perfectly normally yesterday. The next day, after 7.0 update, super excited to play the game, I was denied. Every game i accept, it pauses on the box with the users readying up then comes up with a notice saying: 'Disconnected from game. Server was unable to locate game session' This sucks, because I now have 24 hours before i can do matchmaking... Please fix!! i'm playing on macbook, but my internet is good enough to play normally with about 40-50 ping.
Any help to fixing this, thanks!

I've passed this on to the larger team since people on Windows are seeing the same kind of issue, we'll see if they have any suggestions.

any news on this problem yet , i am still to get into a game of Dota.

I had a close fix yesterday, by creating a new user account on my laptop, redownloading Steam and using a new steam account i was able to play Dota. However when logging back into that account this morning it too has begun freezing before games so I am now seeing the same problem on that too, I can't get into the game before the initial 15 seconds expires.

There won't really be status here as this forum is for Mac/Linux bugs and your problem is happening on Windows also so it's being handled by the full Dota team and not the porting team. The larger team is working on my problems and doing a lot of updates so hopefully they'll find the problem here and fix it.

I am experiencing exactly the same issue - also on a macbook pro. Have been unable to get into a game since the update. Have posted log here http://dev.dota2.com/showthread.php?t=274330&p=1412533&viewfull=1#post1412533

Symptoms all the same, moment all 10 people accept the game freezes slightly, then drops back to home screen with an unable to locate game session bug.

I've re-installed the game, started new accounts tried in different locations, run safe mode, autoconfig etc

Did this change with the recent update to increase connect time from 20 to 30 seconds?

I am experiencing the same issue for the past one week. I am using a Macbook Pro, Processor Name: Intel Core i7, Processor Speed: 2.2 GHz. I have played dota on this device conveniently before, but this issue keeps on pertaining.

@shbhmrzd, do you get the "unable to locate game session" message? Can you post your full console log as a gist here?

I have an Early 2015 Macbook Pro, 2.7 GHz i5, 16 G Ram and the Iris 6100 graphics chip. I have also had the exact same problem since 7.00 came out. It's been almost 2 months, is there any update on this?

As mentioned above there won't be status on this here, it isn't a Mac/Linux-specific bug. The larger team is looking but beyond that I don't know specifics.

Thanks for the reply Drew, do you know if is there another thread where there would be a response to this?

dev.dota2.com is the right place and it looks like you've already posted there so that's as much as you can do.
