Symptoms

Hitching (causing flashes of the fallback environment) that starts out fairly frequent but gets better over time. It feels like the game is loading assets (particularly sound effects) late and winds up waiting on them.

(Side note: Hands are missing if the SteamVR dashboard is open at a certain point while the game is loading, which is a bug in older versions of Unity, not a compatibility issue.)

Reproduction

No particular steps beyond just playing the game. Most obvious is when firing guns for the first time since launching the game.
