Compatibility Report

  • Name of the game with compatibility issues: Starlink: Battle For Atlas
  • Steam AppID of the game: 950050

System Information

  • GPU: GTX 1070
  • Driver/LLVM version: nvidia 430.26
  • Kernel version: 4.15
  • Link to full system information report as Gist
  • Proton version: 4.2-7

I confirm:

  • that I haven't found an existing compatibility report for this game.
  • that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available.

steam-950050.log

Symptoms

Uplay successfully installs and launches and synchronizes achievements and saves, but when Uplay tries to start the game the Starlink process either hangs or a popup with the following text occurs:
There is not enough memory available to run this program. Quit one or more programs, and then try again.
As I've seen something about mfplat in the proton log, I tried the workaround to manually register and install media foundation, but nothing changed. Game also still has Denuvo active, which might be an issue.

Reproduction

  • Install the game via Steam
  • Click play

Looks like it's a media foundation issue. Game works with Proton-5.4-GE-3 and <Workaround removed by moderator>.

Hello @Corben78, that workaround is legally problematic and has been removed.

No more workarounds needed with Proton-5.5-GE-1
