Compatibility Report

  • Name of the game with compatibility issues: Ancestors Legacy
  • Steam AppID of the game: 620590

System Information

  • GPU: NVIDIA P106-100 (equivalent to GTX 1060 6Gb)
  • Driver/LLVM version: NVIDIA 440.82
  • Kernel version: 5.6.3
  • Link to full system information report as Gist: report
  • Proton version: 5.0-6

I confirm:

  • that I haven't found an existing compatibility report for this game.
  • that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available.

Symptoms

  1. Game crashes to desktop after a few minutes of playing.
  2. Menu background doesn't play, it shows as a white screen.
  3. Video cut-scenes don't play during loading screens.

Reproduction

  1. Playing any of the campaign missions for 15 minutes (sometimes less) with esync enabled. If esync is disabled the game won't crash.
  2. Launching the game and reaching the main menu. Installing the Media Foundation DLL solves this issue.
  3. Starting any campaign mission. Like issue above, Media Foundation DLL solves this.

Notes

The attached log was captured with esync enabled but with the Media Foundation DLL installed.

Hello @rexpulli, your log contains eventfd: Too many open files, please run ulimit -Hn and verify it gives you a high value and not 4096.

ulimit -Hn returns 524288 as expected (I am on systemd 245). I will try increasing it to 1048576 and report back.

No change, still crashes even at 1048576.

I am having similar issues. I've turned off E-sync and set my process and file limits to 500,000. The game still crashes after 5-15 minutes. The main error persists to be:

eventfd: Too many open files in system
Protocol error: process 00d4: sendmsg: Bad file descriptor

Basically makes the game unplayable since so little progress can be made before a crash.

I had same problem, I solve it by using Proton-5.9-GE-8-ST and Verify integrity of game files.

For me it crashes to desktop during intro (viking ship in storm and title texts), does not get into gameplay at all.
I have tried various Proton versions and Mesa versions during a period of few months.

GPU: AMD Vega 10 XL/XT [Radeon RX Vega 56/64] (rev c3)

Game now works through the viking intro and game is playable. Proton experimental (6.3), kernel 5.16.7, Mesa 22.0-rc1.
There is still choppiness (shader builds?) but works without crashing.
