Symptoms

Game attempts to open in fullscreen, black screen appears in fullscreen, game immediately crashes to desktop.

Reproduction

1. Open game through Steam.
2. Observe issue.

COMMENT: There's a good chance the answer is staring me in the face and I'm just really stupid. Others seem to have very little trouble with this game per ProtonDB, and this is a newly-configured system that I haven't ironed out all the issues with yet.

Fixed; I uninstalled Steam, deleted the compatdata folder's contents, and reinstalled Steam, using steam --reset on both sides of the installation for the sake of caution. This appears to have worked.

I'm experiencing further issues. The game seems to be crash-happy, and quite often after any significant amount of play, the UI text will disappear. I'll gather pertinent information tomorrow.

Those buttons are supposed to have text next to them.

I was at the To Be Continued help prompt (with the 🔰 mark on the screen) about to take another screencap because the textbox was empty, and the game abruptly crashed. The log is as follows (I switched from Proton-GE to standard Proton to test and file this report, and the issue is the same with both):
