Proton log

Symptoms

When loading "Anime" mode, game hangs on a black screen until quit. It does not appear to have fully locked up since Alt-F4 or the "Close" button in steam interface still work, but no in-game controls do anything. (The main game mode works just fine.)

Reproduction

  1. Launch Steam VR, then this game
  2. On the main menu, select "Anime"
  3. Neverending black screen

Hello @mDuo13, it looks like this game would benefit from support for Media Foundation maturing.

Proton Experimental experimental-5.13-20201218c might get a bit further (and most likely have the same issue due to missing codecs). If you feel like trying that, please share a Proton log.

It does indeed get a lot farther with Proton Experimental. The mode loads up quickly and the VR part plays just fine, but as best I can tell, the in-game video is just a debug image. I'm guessing that means some codec isn't available or implemented? The 3D gameplay continued as expected, including audio but there was no picture or sound from the video the characters are supposed to be watching. (I think I didn't actually test far enough to get to the part where it was expected to have sound, though.)

(For comparison, here's what it's supposed to look like.)

to understand what this debug video means, take a look at this:
#1464

to be more specific that post:
" There won't be any improvements for Media Foundation-based games in 5.13-1.

We put in a bunch of work improving quartz video between 5.0 and 5.13, so some games may start working (I don't have specific titles, sorry). If you see a color bars pattern appearing now, that's an indicator of our work on certain codecs. You will hopefully see the real video instead of those color bars very soon."
