During the game, I noticed a lot of stutter. Especially during melee attacks

Me too, but my video card is AMD, the sound stutters too (sometimes it looks like I am using Wine), I thought it was my driver, but as you are experiencing this too, and you have a much better video card, maybe the game must be tuned a little bit more... Well, I will leave it to the tech guys!

Does it also stutter on subsequent playthroughs of the same map?

I will play it more and check this info, but as far as I can remember it´s random, I had to decrease the quality of graphics (low on everything, effects disabled) to have some gain, but even so the game still stutters, this didn´t happen on Windows, I could play with everything on high, the only thing disabled was antialiasing, the performance was great (I know AMD´s support is not the best).

Same here; every time I start a playthrough same thing.

Well, the screenshots were taken during a gameplay of around 30-40 minutes with these video configurations:

Here are the screenshots:

I would like to include these two from another gameplay:

Sorry for the huge number of images, but I wanted to take some of the most critical moments of the game (stutter, lag and slowdown), some minor lags, like 1 to 3 seconds couldn´t be taken (when I was up to press F12 the lag stoped).

I got a NVidia GTX 650 and the performance is excellent with all effects in 1600x900 (my desktop resolution), but the stutter continues, it´s not video related in my opinion since it happened with my onboard Radeon HD 4290 too with low settings, I can say some moments where it almost always happens, on the Dark Carnival campaign, right on the start, where the camera is moving, when it is passing by the car it stutters, then when it changes to the characters, when you are about to change to the char´s view it stutters again, when you are passing by the Whispering Oaks outdoor it stutters and on this part the sound jumps (I can hear Coach saying Whispering Oaks, but the stutter makes the sound jumps to Nick saying now you can die there as an adult, some times I can hear a little bit more of Coach but his entirely phrase I can´t and other times Nick´s phrase is not complete) and when I shoot for the first time it stutters again, there are more moments on the game where I experience this issue, but these one I said happens 99% of the time.

Even after I disabled multicore render as described here #457, the game still stutters.

Compared to windows.
On both OS at the start of a map there is some stutter / lag, but on windows it goes away.
Its most noticeable when zombies attack / spawn.

There does not seem to much difference between beta and the normal one.
I did however notice the game loading allot faster.

When I play through the same area the second time, its much better.

On crash coarse beta I noticed the mini gun, not turning red hot.

I know nothing about coding and such, but to me it looks its some loading issue.
Loading of game stuff and or textures.
I also like to add, when you play a map first time and walk towards a new area.
its good for 2-3 seconds, then freezes, for about 1 sec, then its good for 2-3 seconds, then it freezes again.
Not sure if I should call it lag or stutter.
LFD2 seems to be the only game I have with this issue.

I just installed openSUSE 13.1 (which has a kernel with the power governor fix)
Although it might be a little bit less worse, it still is ruining my fun when playing this game on Linux.

openSUSE 13.1 64 bit, catalyst 13.8 beta driver.

I just installed the Catalyst 14.4. (openSUSE 13.1 64 bit)
Progress ! The game runs smooth. Some mild stutter with explosions, but I can finally play this game again.
There is no sound though.

I tried the non beta one.
( half Life 2 and Portal 2 do have sound)

If you guys want me to t try the beta too, just tell me. :)

Closing as general video driver quality from 2013 is no longer relevant.
