My thoughts after 4 months of Linux Gaming #1928

This is not a forum; this is a bug tracker. Please review things in a more appropriate area. However, regarding some of your concerns... (and please don't take any of these responses as aggressive or insulting; the questions are only to try to straighten some things out):
Do you have crash information you can provide regarding these crashes? I cannot reproduce.
Many people are reporting this issue; I cannot replicate it personally, but it's documented.
I'd tend to disagree. 153 CS1.6 issues on one tracker, 81 on another whereas TF2 has 17 and 98 issues being tracked. That's counting the feature requests, of course... but it shows the scope.
Which FPS drop bug are you referring to? Moreover, where did you read it was fixed?
The bug is still open at ValveSoftware/Source-1-Games#56. Where did you read it was fixed?
Despite having a new steam .deb, did you update after installing it? That issue was fixed very recently (like... yesterday, if my memory serves me correctly). |
Do you have crash information you can provide regarding these crashes? I cannot reproduce.
Actually I don't know I can provide information since the game just closes.
Which FPS drop bug are you referring to? Moreover, where did you read it was fixed?
The fps drop issue. I read at the Linux forum. Sorry if the info is wrong.
The bug is still open at ValveSoftware/Source-1-Games#56. Where did you read it was fixed?
I also read this at the Linux discussions forums. Again, sorry if the info is wrong.
Despite having a new steam .deb, did you update after installing it? However, I checked and "Your Steam Client is up to date". |
If you launch Steam from the terminal, you can get crash information.
You may want to try updating the package by Of course, this is different based on your package manager (the above is for 'buntu-based systems). |
"If you launch Steam from the terminal, you can get crash information." Thanks, I'll report back in a few hours. PS: My Ubuntu 12.04 is fully updated. |
Report of Terminal, right after being killed by a spy the fps dropped to 10. When I first began playing TF2 on Linux some bugs almost set me on fire. Of course, we're still porting the game, we're in beta stages (I guess we still are), so I decided to cool down my Linux gaming experience atm.
Yesterday I installed Steam, CSS and TF2. CSS runs great the game itself, but after minimizing the game (ALT+SPACE), it closes itself. I'm also experiencing mouse lag on CSS, just like running CS 1.6 at 60Hz and fps_max is set to 72, I move the mouse but there's a slight delay on the movement on the game.
Now let's talk about TF2, which I think is the most buggy Valve game right now.
I read somewhere that the fps drop bug was fixed. WRONG. Played today, after the 1st round fps dropped to 10.
Also read the HDR problems were fixed. WRONG. Tested playing with HDR enable, once it froze the game at the server welcome screen. Second time fps was 5-10, even when just joined the server.
Also read those problems were because of Steam Overlay. Again wrong, disabled it and still fps drops on the match.
Other problem is the fact that when someone starts a chat with you, no window is opened. If I go to get a coffee and someone chats with me, he/she will never get any response untill they say something again (IF I see the chat on the botom of the screen).
