Steam launcher not launching on (K)Ubuntu 17.10 #5437

I should note my log is from the attempted solution in #4948 . Running the steam command plain results in the same error as the original issue. The six thumbs ups on the issue should confirm my issue is not an edge case. |

One last try before I'm out of ideas. Please try If that doesn't work, then there most likely is missing dependencies from using dpkg directly and you could give the distro-provided variant of the steam package a try instead. To switch from the Valve-provided package to the distro-provided package:

That command worked successfully, and I was able use steam after using it. After using this command steam is able to start without issue from my launcher. I will give a partial (this command overwrote much of the early history) copy of my log:

I installed 17.10 today, and have whatever drivers that Kubuntu and Steam installed. Is there any way to get around this, or will I have to use Windows?
