Monthly Report #202211

We power on, approaching the end of 2022 at full speed! It's been a crazy year for many of us, but at least we've been able to travel again, and we've been able to make new connections in real life and exchange ideas of how to build better blockchain products.

November was no different than most other months: Busy! But with Sub0 and Polkadot Summit (SFO) it was a little busier than usual for a lot of us, as our team had to prepare for the few days away from their computers. And of course, the FIFA World Cup arrived - so we've been having some fun with a few Prediction Markets there.

In addition to that, we secured our second Parachain Slot Lease on Kusama, after the first one came to term. It's always exciting to win a Parachain Slot Auction!

Now, let's look at the primary updates that we can give you about what happened at Zeitgeist in November...

Tech

Protocol

Zeitgeist's engineering team continued to optimize the protocol's overall code, and submitted a total of 96 commits. These are the main ones:

APP

With regards to the application's interface, we submitted a total of 270 commits, and these are the primary ones worth taking note of:

image

  • Add a new market page and improve the loading speed through Subsquid
  • A new tutorial on liquidity is added to the liquidity page for users to learn and use
  • New scalar market with date as the result
  • Enables paging and circular scrolling
  • Use the new SDK to restructure the loading of the asset pool and optimize the response speed
  • Add popular markets
  • Add price display in selected and popular markets

Subsquid Integration

November saw continued integration of Subsquid’s tech into the Zeitgeist ecosystem. Subsquid acts as an important data indexing tool for us, and here we submitted a total of 12 GitHub commits. Here are the key details:

image

  • Reconcile destroyed markets on testnet(#217
  • Unreserve test balances based on account validation checks(#218
  • Process & map BalancesDepositEvent on testnet(#219
  • Process & map BalancesSlashedEvent#221
  • Connect events on balance addition due to rewards(#223
  • Join pool schema to market schema(#232
  • Process & map StyxAccountCrossedEvent#234
  • Record differences in volume on historicalPool schema(#236

SDK

This month, our Software Development Kit (SDK) version number iterated to v0.10.2. A total of 14 commits were submitted:

  • Update and release SDK v0.9.3 version(#233
  • Allow market sorting using pool volume(#236
  • Accept rejectReason for rejecting market (#237
  • fix fetching active assets and release SDK v0.10.1 version(#238
  • fix market in case non-existing pool and release SDK v0.10.2 version(#240

Other development

There were a few other updates our team prepared that may not have been noted on Github, and they include:

  • Zeitgeist renewing its Parachain Slot Lease on Kusama, and so we're good to go for another year!
  • Updating the dependency package in the NFT Badge library Avatars in Zeitgeist
  • Optimizing the implementation of the LMSR market maker
  • For our Rikiddo market making rule, the implementation of the Rust version was added

Marketing

In terms of marketing, of course this is key to ensuring we attract users to our protocol and build an accurate forecasting tool. We're working as hard as ever to ensure the application is of the highest standard before really ramping up marketing efforts, but this doesn't change the fact that we still want to display a strong brand presence to the Dotsama and overall crypto community. Here are some key updates from the Marketing Team:

  • Launched The Zeitgeist Newsletter, which is a fortnightly email of the primary markets and activities in the PM ecosystem, including a Top Ten chart of the most active prediction markets by volume
  • Our Lead Blockchain Engineer Harald Heckmann spoke at the Sub0 Conference in Lisbon
  • Our Product and Biz Developer Devlin spoke at Polkadot Summit in San Fransisco
  • We launched a small campaign around the FIFA World Cup, which included Twitter Spaces, live match predictions, and ZTG giveaways - this will run until the end of the tournament

Conclusion

Overall, we're proud of everything we continue to achieve at Zeitgeist, and just want to keep building. It's important that during this time of crypto chaos we keep our heads down and continue to build as best as we can, getting input, advice and expertise from some of the best in both the Prediction Market, Forecasting, Blockchain, and Software fields.

We continue to appreciate all of your support!
