Jargon Buster

If you remember not knowing what a word means, there's probably someone else who could benefit from you defining it here!

Please be brief in your description, but do link to further information as appropriate.

Help editing markdown can be found at this excellent markdown cheatsheet

  • markdown: text file with little bit of formatting (e.g. bold, headings, italics)
  • reproducible: being able to get the same results from the same data and code; as opposite to replicable (comparable results from different data)
  • clone: a copy of a Github repository on your local machine (e.g. /User/Username/Repos/ReproducibleResearch).
  • branch
  • fork: a copy of a repository that maintains the history of the original and keeps that link to the original. You can fork a repository to make changes without affecting the original project. It can be used as a starting point for a new project, or to propose changes (submitting a pull request). For more information see https://help.github.com/articles/fork-a-repo and https://guides.github.com/activities/forking.
