Edgesense makes it simple to release the network of interaction of your community as open data. We recommend releasing open data: you'll help researchers understand collective intelligence in online communities. To release open data, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the edgesense administration page, and from it to the Script Configuration page. To do so click "Menu => Edgesense => Script Configuration; you can also call up the page yoursite.com/admin/edgesense/script-param.
  2. Scroll down and locate the Data Package link. Click to expand if needed.
  3. Tick the box marked "Create the GEXF export and the datapackage".
  4. Decide on a license for your data, and type the name of the license (for example CC-BY) in the Data License Type field.
  5. Be thorough, and add a link to the legal code of your license. Paste it in the Data License URL field. For example: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/
  6. Click on the Submit button.

The exported data will encode the same information as that showed on the dashboard. If you have chosen to make usernames accessible (recommended: you do it from this same screen, by typing "name", without quotes, in the field called "Title field". You find it further up in the page), the downloadable dataset will also contain user names.

Open data are downloadable from two buttons on the bottom right corner of the dashboard.

  • Clicking on the GEXF button, users of the dashboard can download the network itself in GEXF format. GEXF is the standard interchange format for network analysis software packages.
  • Clicking on the Datapackage button, users of the dashboard can download can download the metadata, encoded in the Data Package standard developed by the Open Knowledge Foundation.
