Expected Behavior

Ability to have a similar setting/functionality in Matrix that mimics Slack's handling of channel groups that can be set to "Show and sort" > "Unreads only" so you don't have to see EVERY channel you're in, just the ones that have messages you've not yet read (this significantly helps reduce cognitive load for processing messages & communicating in Slack).

Note that pairing that setting with muting channels you're not heavily active in Slack means you can really fine-tune the channels you're closely watching while still being alerted if there's a here/channel/@mention/notification-word-mention in a muted channel to not miss those.

Actual Behavior

As noted in #16 (comment) Matrix has no way to limit the cognitive load for folks who are monitoring MANY channels while being active in a select FEW. To be honest, without a good way to solve this in Matrix there's no way I could maintain visibility across the many channels I currently do and will likely be forced to leave 80-90% of the channels I'm in (and then also likely miss notifications that I otherwise would have previously responded to).
