How can we reproduce this behavior?

  1. Activate Yoast Development: Test Helper plugin so you have Books custom post.
  2. Go to SEO - Search Appearance - Content Types - Posts
  3. In SEO title type "%b"
  4. Check drop down list:

  1. Choose "Book category (custom taxonomy)"
  2. Check the page (variable is rendered nicely)

  1. Save page
  2. Check again snippet variable (it is changed to %%ct_book-category%%):

Possible cause: dashes are breaking the entities
