Please give us a description of what happened.

I have Yoast breadcrumbs enabled + "Show Blog page"
This is working fine except for when viewing a category page that is empty, then the "Blog page" -part of the breadcrumb is missing

Please describe what you expected to happen and why.

For categories that has not yet had any posts published we display a message like "Nothing published here yet but in the meantime see..."
I expected Yoast bredcrumb to display normaly while on a category page even if there are no posts at the moment?

How can we reproduce this behavior?

1.Enable/set up yoast breadcrumb
2.Enable "Show Blog page"
3.Browse to category page with no posts

I have been reproducing this using nothing but the latest default WP theme

Thank you for reporting this issue.

SEO wise it is not advised to have an empty category, as this is thin content and will not tell Google what to find on your website. Could you please let me know why you have categories that do not have any posts yet? And what is the reason you are linking to other categories instead of creating a redirect for example?

Additionally, we are currently working on an overhaul of the breadcrumb structure.

Thank you for your reply!

We are launching a new site that consists of different regional sections and each section has it´s own news category. We are not linking to another category, the message that is displayed on empty categories is instead providing a message explaining that there are no posts from this region/category at the moment + a link that leads to further information with contactpersons for that specific region. We believe that for ux and consistency reasons it´s important to have all categories/regions present even if they are empty at the time.

I guess that, at least until there are a steady flow of posts from each region/category it would make sense to click "no" under "Show Categories in search results" for Categories to avoid thin content pages. Possibly it´s enough to have the news archive/blog page indexed ?

Thanks!

I am able to reproduce this issue. We should hide the blog page on all taxonomies, because it's meant to be visible on single posts only.
