Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
We implemented WebP images on our site in order to improve our Google PageSpeed scores and overall improve Ux on load. There is an issue however with the Yoast plugin on how it pulls an image into the <meta property="og:image"... and <meta property="twitter:image" ...
Presently it pulls in the .WebP version when we have it implemented. This has implications on compatibility in social media from what we have been seeing. Particularly when the blog posts are shared in Slack and other destinations. We are seeing inconsistencies of the Image that generates on the Social previews on some platforms and when some social sharing tools are used such as Buffer and SproutSocial.
Describe the solution you'd like
We would like to see the Yoast plugin pulling the original or non-optimized version of the Featured image into the social Meta tags. e.g. drop the .WebP and just use .jpg/png.
Why do you think this feature is something we should consider for the Yoast SEO plugins?
Better reliability of social sharing and allow Yoast users to use best-recommended image optimization settings on their website(s).
